Men suffering from prostate cancer may never know their real condition until the tumor grows large enough to put pressure on the urethra. Men at the age 50 and above normally suffer from a large prostate gland because of a non-cancerous condition referred to as Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia, otherwise known as BPH. The mention of prostrate cancer should cause alarm in every man, regardless of age. By observing any changes in your body and scheduling annual prostate examinations with your doctor you will be assured the peace of mind of a healthy prostate for many years to come.

The symptoms of prostate cancer that you should be aware of include:

Some men feel pain when they ejaculate and a burning sensation when urinating. Once these signs become apparent, it would be highly sensible to consult a physician as soon as possible for a proper diagnosis.

Most physicians will ask the patient to undergo a digital prostate examination by inserting a lubricated, gloved finger inside the rectum to feel the prostate. The prostate should be firm in normal cases. Hard spots may indicate the presence of cancer cells and the physician may prescribe a blood test to check the levels of prostate specific antigens known as a PSA test. All men have prostate-specific-antigens, but those with cancer have a high level of antigen.

Prostate cancer is a condition which cannot be neglected. It ranks next to skin cancer as being one of the most significant types of cancer afflicting men. Approximately 179,300 men in the United States alone are diagnosed with prostate cancer each year. 3.4 % of prostate cancer victims risk dying from the complications brought about by the disease, which is more common among men 50 and older, although younger men may also suffer from it.

Men should have yearly prostate examinations when they reach 45 years of age. African men, as well as those whose relatives suffered from prostate cancer, are most likely to contract the disease. Even though the disease may slowly affect your body, the threat to your life is too much to ignore. Like any other kind of cancer, time is of the essence. Act now for your own health and for the peace of mind for you and your family.

The exam isn’t as bad as it’s thought out to be. It’s a quick procedure. It’s performed by a professional so you shouldn’t have to be ashamed of it. It’s a natural part of male health

As soon as you see any of these symptoms you should go to the urologist ASAP. You will thank yourself of having to deal with the disease once it’s too late.
